Man bites of his arm after he was hit by a car in the central city of Tuscany, and the driver is hospitalized.
The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the suburb of Palermo, where residents gather for Sunday Mass.
A witness, who gave his name only as Carlo, told the Tuscansitesto a man in his early 30s approached the car, struck him in the leg, and fled on foot.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery.
He was taken by ambulance to the town’s police station and remains in a stable condition.
The suspect is believed to have left the scene, but the driver has not been arrested.
It is the latest in a string of violent crimes to hit Italy’s third-largest city.
Earlier this year, a 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the stomach in a street attack in the area.
Last month, two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
